The property lies on the east side of the old Silver Peak mining district, approximately 50 km southwest of Tonopah, Nevada. This district produced gold and silver from both bedding parallel quartz veins, "flat reefs", and steeply dipping, high-grade epithermal veins. Although the veins are hosted in Proterozoic sedimentary rocks, not in volcanic rocks, the epithermal veins are typical of others in the Walker Lane precious metal province.
A steeply dipping, NNE-WSW striking, epithermal vein system is traceable over approximately 400 metres along a series of old adits and shafts, and a more recent open cut at the eastern end. From that open cut, a bulk sample assayed 685 g/t Ag. Individual grab samples from the adjacent, well exposed outcrop assay up to 2,700 g/t Ag.
The vein and stockworks, associated with a greenstone dyke system, cut Late Proterozoic or Early Cambrian limestones or dolomites. Collars of a series of vertical drill holes on the south side of the vein indicate exploration for open-pit potential, within the bleached and silicified alteration halo.
There is no indication that this vein system has been explored by angled holes to test for high-grade mineralization below the old workings. Crown Gold plans core drilling to test for vertical and horizontal extensions to this mineralization.
